No Added Sugar Apple Butter
After mulling over all the recipe options we could make with the many pounds of apples we picked last weekend, we decided to make a simple 4-ingredient, no added sugar APPLE BUTTER!
If you’ve never tasted homemade apple butter, you’re missing out, because it tastes like Fall in a jar. Yum....
Best of all, making apple butter is practically fool-proof. You can cook down the sauce to be as thick or thin as you like, and you can even taste and adjust the spices and sweetness as you go.
Not to mention, your house will smell amazing all day while this simmers.
The last thing I love about this recipe is that you don't have to peel the apples - a win for time savings and food waste!
6 lbs. apples (I used Gala)
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cloves
Core and rough chop apples and throw them into slow cooker. Add cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Cover, and cook on low for 8-12 hours, until apples are tender enough to fall apart when mashed with a fork. The darker brown, the better (see pic below).
Pull out the immersion blender, and blend until smooth. Transfer to a glass jar and store it in the fridge for up to two weeks. You can also freeze any extra for a longer shelf life!
Serve the apple butter on toast, pancakes, meats, salads, or simply enjoy it by the spoonful!
